    Key Stage 3

    Usually one hour sessions - help with homework, revising for tests, practice exam style questions and help with fundamental ideas of science.

    Group lessons

    You are welcome to make up a small group and share the cost of a group session between you.

    One to one sessions AQA A and AS level

    Heavy emphasis on practicing real exam questions as well as going through content.

    I will build on and consolidate foundation principles of the subject if required and extend students to prepare them for A level studies and beyond.

    I will coach students in developing their skills and intellectual competencies that are essential for success at GCSE and on into the wider world of higher education and work.

    My vision is to be able to help children of all abilities and social class to achieve their full potential and become confident, independent learners.

    £50 per hour or £450 for a block booking of 10 sessions.

    My Teaching Background

    I am a qualified science teacher (PGCE, QTS) with 20 years continuous experience and 3 years private tutoring experience, I am an examiner for GCSE combined science - Chemistry. I have an honours degree in Applied Chemistry (University of Salford), PGCE (University of Portsmouth), and A levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

    I am passionate about my subject and love helping students to engage in science and to access the trickier parts of the subject. I have also worked on some of the basic concepts with those who really struggle and need to revisit work from Key Stage 3.

     

     

    I am currently tutoring GCE A level Chemistry, GCSE Chemistry, GCSE Combined (and triple) Science. I would also consider students needing help with KS3 science.

    I have a very large bank of resources and can prepare tests or leveled questions for individual topics as required. You can choose whether to do some of the questions as ‘homework’ or do them together as part of the lesson.

  • What will the sessions be like?

    The content of the first few sessions will be agreed in the initial consultation meeting.

    The online session will start by looking at a section of the syllabus and setting some goals dependent on the student’s target grade. We will then do some recall activities to establish what we need to work on. There will be some teacher input interspersed with short recall and practice questions before students tackle real exam questions, differentiated according to ability. At the end of the session we will revisit the syllabus and tick off what we have covered so that the student can see how they have made progress.

     

    I prepare individualised lessons with a mixture of teaching, modeling and answering questions. For students who need a little more motivation I teach with simulations, games and hands on activities. I like to ‘coach’ students rather than lecture them and sessions are expected to be very interactive. I have experience of teaching children with many types of special educational needs and will do my best to accommodate everyone.

    I use exam questions to practice exam technique and to give hints and tips on answering exam questions. I also include some academic mentoring if the opportunity arises during a session.

     

     

  • How will I know what your child requires in terms of tuition?

    I offer a free student and parent consultation via zoom. Prior to this I will send you a questionnaire to fill in so that I am clear about the level of tutoring you require, subjects you wish to cover and preferred learning methods, including homework if you wish me to set it.
